You are walking toward an island of green suspended seventeen meters above the busy tracks of the Gare Montparnasse. This is the Jardin Atlantique, a park that exists entirely on a concrete roof covering the platforms of one of Paris's most important railway hubs. Because the park is completely hidden from street level by surrounding high-rise buildings, it remains one of the city's most unexpected elevated retreats. Opened in nineteen ninety-four, it represents a feat of urban engineering that turned a sprawling industrial slab into a destination for relaxation.
