Hôtel de Sens

The Hotel de Sens stands as a rare survivor of medieval Paris, serving as a reminder of a time when the archbishops of Sens held greater authority over the capital than the bishops of Paris. Built between 1475 and 1519, the structure reflects a transition between eras, combining the defensive features of a fortress—such as corner turrets and a gate designed to drop objects on attackers—with the ornate decorative elements of the Gothic period. It is one of only two private medieval residences still standing in the city.
