The Musée de la Magie occupies a series of vaulted cellars that date back to the sixteenth century. These underground chambers were once part of a residence belonging to the infamous Marquis de Sade, who lived here during his youth. You descend into this subterranean space to enter the museum, leaving the busy streets of the Marais district behind for an environment built from stone and mystery. The architecture of these cellars creates a naturally shadowy, theatrical atmosphere that suits the collection of optical illusions, vintage magic apparatus, and historical props housed within.
