Archaeological Museum of Mykonos

The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos stands as a white, boxy structure overlooking the harbor, housing artifacts mostly recovered from the nearby island of Rhenia. In eighteen ninety-eight, archaeologists discovered a large purification trench there, where the Athenians had buried objects from ancient graves to cleanse the sanctuary. The collection includes a massive pithos vase from the seventh century before the common era, featuring a dramatic relief of the Trojan Horse that remains the museum's most famous and carefully preserved treasure.
