The Mykonos Town Hall is a modest, two-story building painted in the island's signature stark white, distinguished by a curved iron balcony that faces the harbor. It started as the mansion of a wealthy merchant named Mavrogenis in the eighteenth century. When the local government took over the property in the nineteen twenties, they inherited a grand family home. Manto Mavrogenis, the heroine of the Greek War of Independence, grew up in these rooms before she funded ships to fight the Ottoman fleet.
