The Aria Lito Mansion stands out because of its bright, ochre-colored facade, a sharp departure from the whitewashed walls that define most of the surrounding buildings in Fira. Built in the late nineteenth century, this captain’s house served as a status symbol for a wealthy merchant family who commanded ships across the Aegean. The mansion preserves the original neoclassical architecture, featuring vaulted ceilings and heavy stone walls designed to withstand seismic shifts, which protected the family during the intense volcanic activity of nineteen fifty-six.
