Megaro Gizi

The Megaro Gizi is a seventeenth-century manor house distinguished by its deep, ochre-colored facade and heavy stone arches. Originally built as the private residence of the aristocratic Gizi family, the structure survived the catastrophic nineteen fifty-six earthquake that leveled much of Thira. Local officials eventually converted the house into a cultural center. Today, it holds a collection of maps and engravings detailing the island as it appeared hundreds of years ago, before the modern tourist crowds arrived.
