Three Bells of Fira

religious

The Three Bells of Fira stands out on the cliffside because of its bright blue dome and the three vertical bells hanging in the masonry arch above the entrance. This church, officially known as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, serves the local Catholic community. During the nineteen fifty-six earthquake, the structure suffered heavy damage, with the roof collapsing entirely. Workers rebuilt the church over the following years, restoring the iconic silhouette that travelers now recognize from countless photographs.
