Qudsia Bagh

Qudsia Bagh is defined by its crumbling red sandstone gateway and the high, broken walls that enclose a silent, overgrown garden. Built in seventeen forty-eight for Qudsia Begum, the mother of the Mughal Emperor Ahmad Shah Bahadur, it served as a private retreat from the intensity of the palace. During the uprising of eighteen fifty-seven, British troops used these walls as a defensive position to bombard the Kashmir Gate, leaving the garden scarred by cannon fire and the neglect that followed.
