Lothian Cemetery

historic

Lothian Cemetery is defined by the high, weathered brick walls that enclose its uneven rows of broken headstones and overgrown shrubs. Established in eighteen oh eight, it is the oldest Christian burial ground in Delhi. During the revolt of eighteen fifty-seven, General John Nicholson was buried here after being mortally wounded during the storming of Kashmere Gate. His grave remains marked, sitting amidst hundreds of unmarked plots and crumbling colonial monuments that have slowly surrendered to the elements and encroaching wild vegetation.
