Nicholson Cemetery

Nicholson Cemetery is marked by the sprawling, overgrown silhouettes of Victorian-era obelisks and marble headstones tucked behind a stone boundary wall near Kashmere Gate. Established in eighteen fifty-seven, this is the final resting place for many soldiers and civilians caught in the chaos of the Indian Rebellion. Near the entrance, you will find the grave of the man for whom the site is named, Brigadier-General John Nicholson, a military officer who led the final assault on the city and died here.
