Church of San Giovanni Battista of Riomaggiore

The Church of San Giovanni Battista sits at the top of the village, recognizable by the twin lancet windows of its white marble facade and the arched portal carved with a floral relief. Built in thirteen forty by the Bishop of Luni, the church served the growing population of the town. During the nineteenth century, laborers working on the facade discovered a stone bearing the date twelve fifty, suggesting an older structure existed on this spot before the current one took its shape.
