Via Renato Birolli serves as the main artery for Manarola, a steep, narrow street that cuts directly through the heart of the village. It follows the path of an ancient stream, the Groppo, which still flows hidden deep beneath the cobblestones today. During the nineteen seventies, engineers covered the watercourse to create this stable pathway for residents. The street connects the small harbor to the upper reaches of town, bearing the name of a local painter who spent his life capturing these cliffs.
