Piazza Vignaioli

landmark

Piazza Vignaioli features a bronze statue of a man carrying a basket of grapes on his back. This small square serves as a tribute to the local grape growers whose labor defined the terraced hillsides of Riomaggiore for centuries. In nineteen eighty-two, a severe landslide destroyed several buildings on this exact site. Rather than rebuilding the residential structures, the town council converted the clearing into this commemorative space to honor the viticulture that shaped the village’s survival and identity.
