경주 황오동 삼층석탑

historic

The Hwang-o-dong Three-story Stone Pagoda stands alone in a quiet residential alleyway, stripped of the temple that once surrounded it. Its granite base shows the wear of a thousand years, supporting three tiers that taper toward the sky in the classic Silla Dynasty style. When excavations occurred here in nineteen seventy-eight, archaeologists discovered a bronze mirror and silver ornaments tucked inside the main body. These items suggested the pagoda served as a reliquary for a royal figure, rather than just a public monument.
