The Hwanganppang Original Store features a traditional tiled roof and a simple wooden exterior that stands out among the modern buildings on this street. In nineteen thirty-nine, Choi Yeong-hwa began baking these circular pastries filled with red bean paste, using a recipe she perfected by hand. She sold them from a small wooden cart before establishing this shop. Families in Gyeongju still gather here to buy the boxes of golden, chrysanthemum-stamped cakes that have defined the city’s flavor for decades.
