Gyerim Forest

historic

Gyerim Forest consists of a dense, centuries-old grove of maple and zelkova trees located between the Daereungwon burial mounds and Wolseong Palace. According to the Samguk Yusa, a rooster crowed in this thicket in the year sixty-five, leading King Talhae to discover a small golden chest hanging from a tree branch. Inside lay Kim Al-ji, the infant who became the progenitor of the Gyeongju Kim clan. This forest marks the legendary origin point of the family that ruled the Silla Kingdom.
