Kadikoy Bull Statue

monument

The bronze bull statue at Altiyol stands as the undisputed landmark of Kadikoy. Cast in Paris during the eighteen sixties, the sculpture originally commemorated the French victory over Prussia in the Franco-Prussian War. After changing hands and traveling across borders, the bull arrived in Istanbul in the nineteen fifties. It resided in various locations around the city before finally settling at this busy intersection in nineteen ninety. It remains a popular meeting point for locals, despite its origins as a war trophy.
