Japanese Roof Garden

park garden

The Japanese Roof Garden sits atop the Brunei Gallery at the School of Oriental and African Studies in the heart of Bloomsbury. You are standing in a space designed specifically for quiet meditation, far removed from the city streets below. It was inaugurated in 2001 as part of the Japan 2001 celebrations, an initiative marking cultural exchange between Japan and the United Kingdom. The garden is officially dedicated to the theme of forgiveness, a sentiment captured by the single kanji character engraved into its central granite water basin.
