Hunterian Museum

The Hunterian Museum stands inside the headquarters of the Royal College of Surgeons of England on Lincoln's Inn Fields. It is built around the vast, lifelong collection of John Hunter, an eighteenth-century surgeon who believed that the best way to understand human health was to compare it against the entire natural world. Hunter spent his career accumulating thousands of specimens ranging from diseased organs and human skeletons to the preserved remains of exotic animals like leopards and opossums. Today, the museum showcases this eclectic and occasionally unsettling collection alongside surgical instruments that track the evolution of medicine from ancient times to the era of robot-assisted operations.
