Marx Memorial Library

The Marx Memorial Library occupies a handsome brick building on Clerkenwell Green that dates back to seventeen thirty-eight. It was originally built as a charity school for the children of impoverished Welsh artisans who lived in the area. The school eventually moved to larger premises in seventeen seventy-two, leaving the building to be divided into various workshops, including a cabinet maker, a mattress maker, and even a coffee house where the International Workingmen's Association once gathered.
