Breathing (memorial sculpture)

High above you on the roof of the BBC Broadcasting House, a ten-meter tall glass and steel cone pierces the skyline. This sculpture, titled Breathing, serves as a permanent memorial to journalists and support staff who have died while reporting from conflict zones around the world. Spanish artist Jaume Plensa designed the work to resemble a translucent, inverted spire that integrates directly into the architecture of the building. Its form draws inspiration from two distinct neighboring landmarks, mirroring both the historic radio mast atop the original Broadcasting House and the nearby spire of All Souls Church.
