Royal Academy of Dramatic Art

The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art began in nineteen hundred and four within the private rooms of His Majesty's Theatre. Its founder, the flamboyant actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, established the school with the specific intention of formalizing stage training in England. In those earliest days, the academy functioned as a practical extension of the theater itself, with students frequently cast directly into Tree's lavish, large-scale productions. It moved to its current Gower Street location just one year later, setting down roots in a space that has served as the training ground for generations of world-renowned performers.
