Farmiloe Building

The Farmiloe Building on Saint John Street stands as a robust survivor of Victorian industrial architecture. Its current facade of Portland stone and Suffolk brick was constructed in 1868 after a massive fire tore through the previous premises that occupied the site. The architect Lewis Henry Isaacs designed this new structure to serve as the headquarters for the lead and glass merchants George Farmiloe and Sons. The firm maintained their operations within these walls for over a century, until they finally moved their business away in 1999.
