The London Fire Brigade Museum traces its origins to the Great Fire of London in sixteen sixty-six, an event that fundamentally changed how the city approached fire safety. For many years, the museum resided within Winchester House, a building that served as the home of Captain Sir Eyre Massey Shaw, the legendary superintendent who essentially professionalized the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in the nineteenth century.
