Leather Lane Market traces its origins to the aftermath of the Great Fire of London in sixteen sixty-six. As displaced merchants from the devastated Cheapside district sought new places to trade, they set up stalls here to serve the thousands of refugees who had camped out in the nearby open fields of Hatton Garden.
