Baden-Powell House

You are looking at a building known as Baden Powell House, which stands as a deliberate architectural statement from the nineteen sixties. Its designer, Ralph Tubbs, drew inspiration from the Swiss architect Le Corbusier, specifically aiming to create a sense of lightness by making the first floor overhang the ground floor. This technique, intended to free the building visually from the earth, earned the structure the Gold Medal of the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers shortly after its completion. In nineteen sixty one, the year it opened, it was even honored as the building of most merit in all of London.
