Abbey Road Pedestrian Crossing

The crossing you are approaching gained its reputation on the morning of August 8, 1969. The Beatles gathered here for a photoshoot for what would be their final studio album. Paul McCartney had provided a hand-drawn sketch to the photographer, Iain Macmillan, detailing exactly how he wanted the band positioned as they moved across the street. The entire session lasted only about ten minutes, with Macmillan perched on a stepladder in the middle of the road while a policeman briefly held up traffic. Out of the six frames captured that morning, only one showed the band members walking in perfect unison, which became the definitive cover image for the album titled Abbey Road.
