Abbey Road Studios

Abbey Road Studios began its life not as a music shrine, but as a nine-bedroom Georgian townhouse built in eighteen thirty-one. It remained a private residence until the Gramophone Company purchased the property in nineteen twenty-nine. The site was chosen specifically for its long, expansive garden, which provided the necessary space to construct the world's first purpose-built recording facility behind the existing domestic structure. When the studios opened in nineteen thirty-one, the original house was repurposed for administrative offices, leaving the residential exterior to mask the massive acoustic chambers hidden out of sight in the back.
