You are approaching Winfield House, a grand mansion tucked away behind twelve acres of private grounds in the heart of Regent's Park. While it now serves as the official residence of the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, its origins are rooted in a personal quest for security by the American heiress Barbara Hutton. In the mid-nineteen thirties, following the high-profile kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, Hutton sought a secluded and fortified home in London to raise her young son in safety. She commissioned the current neo-Georgian structure on the site of an older villa, naming it after her grandfather, the retail tycoon Frank Winfield Woolworth.
