Grove House

Grove House on Grove End Road is a residence that transitioned from a simple detached villa into a legendary center of nineteenth-century artistic life. Originally built in eighteen twenty-five, the house gained its reputation under the French painter James Tissot, who lived there for nearly a decade beginning in eighteen seventy-three. Tissot transformed the property by adding a distinct garden feature, a formal pond surrounded by an iconic cast-iron colonnade, which became a signature backdrop for many of his celebrated paintings of London social life.
