The University Club of San Francisco stands on a site with a transformation from power to recreation. Long before this building rose, the land held the stables for the massive mansion of railroad tycoon Leland Stanford. When the earthquake of 1906 leveled the area, the club purchased this lot to construct their new home. You can still find remnants of the original stable walls integrated into the current property today.
