Alcazar Theatre (1911)

The Alcazar Theatre you are approaching was built in nineteen eleven, rising from the ashes of a predecessor destroyed by the great earthquake and fire of nineteen oh six. This grand venue at two hundred sixty O'Farrell Street became a cornerstone of the city's theatrical life, managed by producer Fred Belasco. It gained fame for its resident stock company, a dedicated group of actors who performed a rotating schedule of plays for local audiences. The site was one of the most prominent cultural spots in downtown San Francisco for decades, hosting everything from live stage dramas to the later, humbler screenings of motion pictures during the Great Depression.
