Rincon Park

Rincon Park holds a forty-foot-tall steel sculpture of a bow and arrow that points toward the bay. Before the park existed, this stretch of the Embarcadero served as a busy industrial pier where cargo ships docked until the late twentieth century. In two thousand five, the city transformed the concrete waterfront into this grassy expanse. The sculpture, created by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, acknowledges the maritime history of the area by mimicking the shape of a giant sailor's needle.
