Tusher African Hall

Tusher African Hall stands as the oldest continually operating exhibit within the California Academy of Sciences. Its origins trace back to a generous offer made in nineteen twenty-eight by a wealthy sportsman named Leslie Simson, who pledged one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to the museum on the condition that he lead an expedition to Africa to collect specimens for a dedicated hall. Over the next several years, Simson traveled across countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, overseeing the extraction of twelve tons of material to populate the dioramas that define the space today.
