San Francisco Botanical Garden

The San Francisco Botanical Garden occupies fifty-five acres within Golden Gate Park and serves as a living museum for over eight thousand plant species. While the concept for this space emerged in the late nineteenth century under park superintendent John McLaren, construction stalled for decades due to a lack of funding. It was only after a significant bequest from a benefactor named Helene Strybing in 1927 that the project gained the necessary momentum to break ground.
