The Holy City Zoo was once one of the most influential comedy clubs in the United States. Despite its name, you would not find any animals here. The club earned its moniker when its first owner, Robert Steger, picked up a discarded sign from a defunct roadside attraction in the Santa Clara mountains called Holy City. He salvaged the sign for free while shopping for furniture for his new venue, and the name stuck.
