Huntington Hotel (San Francisco)

The Huntington Hotel stands as a survivor of a grander era in San Francisco, perched at the very crown of Nob Hill. While many of the opulent mansions that once defined this neighborhood were lost in the nineteen-oh-six earthquake and subsequent fires, this building rose in their wake, opening its doors in nineteen twenty-four. Architects Weeks and Day originally conceived the structure not as a hotel, but as a series of luxury apartments. That residential legacy remains today, as the property has long been known for its unusually spacious floor plans, which were designed for wealthy families to settle in for months at a time rather than for transient stays.
