The Marines Memorial Club originated as a living memorial to honor those who served in the United States Marine Corps during the second world war. General Holland Smith led the effort to create this unique space, envisioning a place where veterans could gather, reconnect, and stay while visiting San Francisco. The building itself was once the Western Women's Club, but after the war, a massive fundraising campaign allowed the Marine Memorial Association to purchase the site and transform it into a dedicated sanctuary for service members and their families.
