Flood Mansion, the building dominates an entire city block at the crest of Nob Hill. While the club is known for its privacy, the structure itself represents a massive leap in nineteenth-century ambition. It was the first brownstone ever constructed west of the Mississippi River, featuring stone quarried in Connecticut and transported thousands of miles by ship around the treacherous southern tip of South America.
