Frederick Griffing's (ship)

The Frederick Griffing rests at the edge of the North Waterfront, a stout, hulking presence once part of a fleet that hauled massive timber loads from the Pacific Northwest to build San Francisco. She launched in nineteen oh five as a schooner, built for heavy lifting rather than speed. Years later, her masts were cut down, and she spent her final working decades as a barge, hauling sand and gravel across the bay until the rust claimed her iron hull.
