You are standing near Building 640, an unassuming former airplane hangar that served as the birthplace of one of the most critical, yet secret, military operations of the second world war. In November 1941, just one month before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Army established a clandestine language school here. Because the project was so top-secret, the military maintained a cover story that the building was simply an industrial laundry facility to hide the true nature of the work happening inside.
