Teatro ZinZanni is an immersive dinner theater that functions as a high-energy hybrid of circus, cabaret, and vaudeville. You are standing near the site of an ambitious project intended to house a century-old Belgian mirror tent, a structure known as a Spiegeltent. These ornate, portable wooden halls were originally built in Europe in the early twentieth century to host traveling dance parties and celebrations. The entire experience is designed to be interactive, with performers often moving through the audience as they serve a multi-course meal. The shows frequently feature a rotating cast of international aerialists, jugglers, and comedic actors. This unique style of entertainment was founded by Norman Langill, who was inspired to bring the concept to the United States after discovering the atmosphere of these tents during his travels in Spain. The specific Spiegeltent intended for this waterfront site is a historic artifact featuring hand-carved wood, stained glass, and velvet drapery. These mirrors are not merely decorative, as they allow guests to see around the pillars that support the tent, ensuring every seat has a view of the action. The project plan here involves placing this antique structure inside a new four-story glass pavilion designed to protect the tent while revealing the internal magic to the public outside.
