Toni Rembe Theater

The building you are approaching rose directly from the destruction of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. When it opened in 1910 as the Columbia Theatre, the city was desperate for a cultural revival, and critics immediately hailed the new venue as the perfect playhouse. Designed by architects Walter Bliss and William Faville, its facade blends neoclassical elements with ornate baroque details that reflect the ambitious spirit of the city's post-disaster reconstruction. It remains one of the few theaters from that era still in continuous use as a professional performance space today.
