Georgetown Waterfront Park

The low stone walls along the Potomac River mark the edge of Georgetown Waterfront Park. For decades, this stretch of land held industrial warehouses, coal piles, and abandoned railyards that cut off the neighborhood from the water. In the nineteen seventies, planners proposed a highway through the site, but local residents fought the project for years. They eventually secured the space for a public park, which opened in two phases during the early two thousands to provide open views across the water.
