Architect George Oakley Totten junior designed the home in nineteen oh nine for a diplomat, though it became the official Turkish residence in nineteen thirty-six. During the Cold War, it served as a discreet venue for high-stakes diplomacy. Ambassador Munir Ertegun frequently hosted jazz musicians like Duke Ellington here, using music to build social bridges that formal government channels could not easily reach.
