Adams Morgan Plaza

A concrete wall, painted with a sprawling, vibrant mural of jazz musicians, rises sharply above the sidewalk at the intersection of eighteenth and Columbia Road. For decades, this plaza functioned as a rare stretch of open space where neighbors gathered to play chess or listen to street performers. In nineteen eighty-six, the city designated the site as a public park, yet the ground remained privately owned. Disputes over the land's future eventually led to the demolition of the stage and the plaza's closure.
