The red brick facade of Engine Twenty-One features an ornate arched doorway framed by decorative terra cotta. Built in nineteen oh eight, the station served a neighborhood that had recently transformed from a quiet suburb of row houses into a dense urban corridor. When the firehouse opened, the crew arrived on horse-drawn carriages, and the heavy doors were designed to accommodate the width of a steam pumper. Today, the building houses private residences, but the original alarm bell still hangs near the roof.
