The Biltmore in Kalorama is an apartment building defined by its sprawling, u-shaped brick facade and distinctive arched entrance. Built in nineteen twenty-three, it provided luxury residences for the city elite who favored high-end apartment living over traditional townhouses. Its most famous resident, President Warren G. Harding, occupied a suite here before his inauguration. He insisted on staying at the Biltmore, even as his advisors pushed for more formal accommodations, because he valued the building's quiet anonymity and its proximity to his social circle.
