The Perry Belmont House features a limestone facade carved with ornate garlands and lions, standing out from the surrounding brick townhouses of Dupont Circle. Perry Belmont, a wealthy congressman, commissioned this mansion in nineteen oh six specifically to host lavish diplomatic parties. He demanded a design grand enough to rival European palaces, ultimately filling the interior with marble staircases and French tapestries. Today, the Order of the Eastern Star occupies the building, maintaining the ornate ballroom where Gilded Age society once danced.
